‘Indoor Hurling & Camogie’ Heat 1: OMAGH
Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain commenced their eagerly awaited series of games for 2016, when the first of two ‘Indoor Hurling and Camogie’ Heats took place on Monday 18 January in Omagh Station Centre.
The Camogie section was impacted, somewhat, by the late withdrawal of two schools – due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control. However, Holy Family P.S. Omagh and Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh, An Stráth Bán, both displayed tremendous skill levels to book their respective places in the County Final at the end of January. Well done, girls!
Four schools competed in a drama-packed Hurling section. St. Dympna’s P.S. boys battled bravely in the competition, but fell just short on the day despite their valiant efforts. Things would go the final match to determine what schools would qualify for a coveted place in the Tyrone Final. A late equaliser was enough to deprive the talented lads from Holy Family P.S. – despite their heroic efforts. The teams who eventually prevailed were the impressive St. Mary’s P.S. Killyclogher and Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh, Strabane – who topped the section. These two triumphant teams now await the qualifying schools from the East Tyrone heats to be held in Dungannon this week.
Tyrone hurler, Aidy Kelly, expertly officiated at today’s matches, whilst Eddie Doris (Rúnaí) co-ordinated. Thank you!
Our thanks, also, to the friendly staff in the Station Centre, Omagh.
