Indoor Hurling & Camogie: Loughview

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain held the first of two qualifying heats in the annual 5-a-side ‘Tyrone Indoor Hurling and Camogie’ tournament for primary schools in Dungannon’s superb Loughview Centre.      A total of 7 local schools entered teams in both codes for this heat, which produced an extremely high level of skill from all involved.

In the Camogie competition a series of league games, based on two sections, was very keenly contested. Gaelscoil Uí Néill and Primate Dixon P.S. both competed valiantly, giving their all. However, they narrowly missed out on a semi-final slot. St. Patrick’s P.S. Roan, Eglish and St. John’s P.S. Kingsisland topped their respective sections – each with a 100%-win record.

St. Brigid’s P.S. Brocagh – making their indoor debut – acquitted themselves more than well before bowing out at the semi-final stage to a top Roan P.S. outfit. A gallant Derrylatinee P.S. also advanced from their section, before they narrowly lost a thrilling semi-final with a skilful Kingsisland team. Thus, we had our two county finalists: St. Patrick’s P.S. Roan, Eglish and St. John’s P.S. Kingsisland. These two supremely talented teams now go forward to the Indoor Camogie County Final to be held in Omagh’s Station Centre on Friday 29 January. We wish them both well. Ádh mór!

The Hurling competition was equally enthralling. Four schools battled it out in a round-robin series of games. St. John’s P.S. Kingsisland, brought a young team to the event. These youthful lads will, no doubt, have gained valuable experience – and will be all the better for it at next year’s competition. They could well be worth watching. Well done, boys!

Meanwhile, a three-way tie at the top required a play-off to determine our qualifiers. A talented Blessed Patrick O’ Loughran P.S., Castlecaulfield, team was drawn out to ensure their place in the County Final. This left Gaelscoil Uí Néill and Primate Dixon P.S. facing each other in a winner-takes-all match. It was an epic encounter. Two late PDPS goals broke the brave resistance of the gifted Clonoe lads in a spellbinding game to prevail 2-1. Therefore, it is Blessed Patrick O’ Loughran, Castlecaulfield, and Primate Dixon P.S. Coalisland qualifying for the Tyrone Indoor Hurling Finals to be held on Thursday 28 January in Omagh. It promises to be a terrific County Final – Ádh mór oraibh!

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thir Eoghain wishes to thank Joe McAree for hosting us today at Loughview; PRO Eddie Doris for coordinating, and a word of thanks to our referees: Anne Daly (Tyrone GDA) and Ruairí Convery (Tyrone P.S. Coach). Maith sibh go léir!
