Indoor Camogie: TYRONE FINAL 2019

The Station Centre in Omagh was the scene of this year’s annual Indoor Camogie Final. As in previous years, the standard was quite simply brilliant.

Our Lady of Lourdes P.S. Greencastle, Gaelscoil Aodha Rua, Dún Geanainn, and St. John’s P.S. Kingsisland (narrowly missing out on goal difference) all played marvellous camogie only to fall just short of making further progress towards the semi-final stage.

Roan P.S. Eglish topped Section ‘A’ with 3 wins from 3 and they were followed, in second place, by St. Ronan’s P.S. Recarson. Both schools had guaranteed themselves a semi-final slot. Meanwhile, Section ‘B’ was headed by St. Colmcille’s P.S. Carrickmore who also had a perfect win record. Closely behind them (pipping Gaelscoil Aodha Rua on goal difference) came the Brocagh girls from St. Brigid’s P.S. Both schools made it to the semi-finals.

As things developed, the Section winners proved just strong enough to see-off their opponents in the semi’s. Roan P.S. edged their contest with Brocagh 2:0, whilst Carrickmore recorded a narrow 2:1 AET win against Recarson. Playing-off for third place St. Ronan’s P.S. Recarson just squeezed past a gallant Brocagh side. Both schools agreed to share 3rd place and can be very proud as they now rank amongst the top 4 camogie teams in Tyrone. It was some 24 hours for Recarson given their boys’ exploits in winning the hurling title yesterday.

Everything was now set for the Co. Final between the only sides boasting 100% records. Something had to give. As things transpired, St. Patrick’s P.S. Roan, Eglish, seemed to hold the upper hand and went on to seal a 3:1 victory. Mr. O’ Neill can be very proud of his Carmen girls – they gave it their all.

Meanwhile, this victory tasted extra special for Master Mone’s and Master Grimley’s girls after the narrow defeat the Roan lads suffered in yesterday’s hurling final. Going through the entire day without dropping a single point is sensational. This much cherished Co. Camogie crown is thoroughly deserved!

A special word of thanks goes to all accompanying teachers and team mentors.

Our appreciation also goes to our referee, Lochrann O Donnghaile, for his expert officiating and to Orla O’ Neill and Anne Daly for their invaluable assistance throughout our series of heats. To our Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Ulster and Tír Eoghain officers Mickey Quinn and Pat McGivern a word of thanks for coordinating this successful event.

St. Patrick’s P.S. Roan, Eglish: Comhghairdeas! They now have the honour of representing Tyrone once again in the Ulster Finals to be held in Magherafelt. Ádh mór!

A truly memorable day for all involved. Maith sibh!
