Girls Indoor Heat - Station Centre Omagh
A brilliant few days of Gaelic football unfolded at the Station Centre this week as the Tír Eoghain Cumann na mBunscoil Indoor Gaelic 5‑a‑Side Competition brought together an impressive array of talent. Girls’ teams from Strabane, Castlederg, Omagh, and Carrickmore arrived with excitement, determination, and a real sense of pride as they competed for a coveted place in the Indoor County Finals on 11th March in MUSA Cookstown.
From the very first throw‑in, it was clear that the standard of football on display was exceptional. The girls showcased superb skill levels, sharp movement, accurate kicking, fearless defending, and wonderful teamwork throughout the day. What truly stood out—beyond the footballing ability—was the fantastic behaviour, sportsmanship, and positive attitude shown by every single participant. Their encouragement of teammates, respect for opponents, and genuine love for the game created a warm and uplifting atmosphere that everyone present appreciated.
The competition format saw the girls divided into groups of four, producing a series of exciting, end‑to‑end games. Each match brought moments of drama and brilliance: last‑gasp scores, heroic blocks, clever passes, and some tremendous goalkeeping displays. Spectators were treated to football that was not just competitive, but highly enjoyable to watch—played with pride, passion, and no shortage of skill.
After a fantastic set of group fixtures and semi‑finals, the day concluded with a thrilling final between St. Dympna’s PS Dromore and St. Colmcille’s PS Carrickmore. Both teams played with heart and commitment, serving up a memorable contest that was full of quality. In the end, it was St. Dympna’s PS Dromore who edged a brilliant, closely‑fought final to claim a well‑deserved victory and secure their place in the Indoor County Final at MUSA, Cookstown on the 11th March 2026.
Heartfelt commiserations to St. Colmcille’s PS Carrickmore, who were outstanding throughout the tournament and were desperately unlucky to miss out after contributing so much to what was a wonderful day of football. They can leave with their heads held high after a superb series of performances.
A special word of thanks must go to Paul Gallagher (Tyrone GAC) for his excellent refereeing. His fairness, consistency, and encouragement helped ensure that the games flowed brilliantly and were enjoyed by all.
We also extend sincere appreciation to all the teachers, principals, and classroom assistants who accompanied the children and supported Tír Eoghain Cumann na mBunscoil. Their commitment gives pupils the opportunity to represent their schools, experience competitive sport at a high level, and create memories that will last a lifetime. For many of the girls, today was truly a day they will remember and treasure with their friends.
A thoroughly enjoyable day of exciting, high‑quality football—well done to everyone involved.
