Girls' Indoor Football, Cookstown: Heat 4

27th Feb 2020

ALLIANZ CUMANN Na mBUNSCOL

GIRLS’ INDOOR FOOTBALL HEAT 4: Cookstown

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain held the fourth of 9 scheduled heats of the annual 5-a-side Girls’ Indoor Gaelic Football for primary schools today in Cookstown Leisure Centre. A total of 6 local schools had enrolled for the honour of winning this heat and, with it, a coveted place in the Tyrone County Final. However, a number of factors conspired against us – that old Coronavirus is a boyo - leaving us with just 3 teams. But you know what they say, quality is better than quantity, and our teams provided us with plenty of quality. Great stuff, girls!

Taking to the field we had Sacred Heart P.S. Rock; Laghey P.S., and Stewartstown’s St. Mary’s P.S. These girls performed tremendously, and they were all pretty evenly matched. However, one school proved formidable opponents and won both their matches. This school was Laghey P.S. mentored by Master Gavin Wylie. The other two schools agreed on a joint second finish.

Therefore, it is Laghey P.S. girls who secure a place in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Tyrone County Final to be held in Cookstown’s MUSA Indoor Arena on 12 March. We congratulate Master Wylie and these terrifically talented girls and wish them well in the Final. Ádh mór oraibh!

Our thanks to referee Marty Devlin for his expert officiating, and to Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Ulster Chair Pat McGivern for coordinating the day’s matches. A final word of thanks must go to the friendly staff at Cookstown Leisure Centre. Well done all!
