Cumann na mBunscol Outdoor League – Section E

Match Report – Fr Hackett Park, Augher | Friday 15th May

Fr Hackett Park, Augher was the venue for an excellent morning of football on Friday 15th May as five primary schools competed in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Section E League. With a prompt 10am start, the event ran smoothly through to 12.30pm, providing a rich programme of games, skill development and enjoyment for all involved.

Participating Schools

  • St Patrick’s PS, Aughadarragh
  • St Mary’s PS, Aughnacloy
  • St Mary’s PS, Ballygawley
  • St Malachy’s PS, Glencull
  • St Macartan’s PS, Clogher

The competition was played in a round-robin league format, with each team playing one another in both boys’ and girls’ sections (7-a-side with rolling substitutions). This format ensured that all pupils had significant game time and the opportunity to contribute.

Girls’ Competition

The girls’ league was closely contested throughout, with all teams showing great determination and improving with each game. At the conclusion of the round-robin stages, the two highest-scoring teams—St Mary’s Ballygawley and St Malachy’s Glencull—progressed to the final.

In a fitting finale, echoing their recent Errigal derby encounter, both teams produced an exciting and skilful match. St Mary’s Ballygawley emerged as deserving winners, while St Malachy’s Glencull finished as runners-up following a strong and spirited performance.

Boys’ Competition

The boys’ section mirrored the competitiveness of the girls’ games, with several tightly contested matches across the league phase. Consistency saw St Malachy’s Glencull and St Mary’s Ballygawley finish as the top two teams and progress to the final.

In another high-quality Errigal derby, St Malachy’s Glencull secured victory to claim the title, with St Mary’s Ballygawley finishing as runners-up after an impressive campaign.

Path to the County Finals

Both winning teams—St Mary’s Ballygawley (girls) and St Malachy’s Glencull (boys)—now progress to represent Section E at the Cumann na mBunscol Tyrone County Finals Day, which will take place on 9th June at the Garvaghy Centre.

Organisation and Acknowledgements

The day was a great success thanks to the efforts of all involved. Special thanks are extended to:

  • Gemma Quinn (St Patrick’s PS, Aughadarragh) for organising a well-run and enjoyable event
  • All-County referees Mark Loughran and Eugene McConnell for officiating and ensuring all games were played in the right spirit
  • Participating teachers who assisted with refereeing and helped keep the schedule running smoothly

Pupils arrived prepared and ready to play, allowing for a prompt start and an efficient running of fixtures. The behaviour of all teams reflected the Cumann na mBunscol ethos, with respect and sportsmanship evident throughout.

Overall, the Section E League blitz in Augher was a fantastic success, showcasing the enthusiasm, talent and teamwork of all the young players.

Congratulations to all participating schools.

We wish the winning teams the very best of luck as they represent their schools and Section E at the Tyrone County Finals in June.
