Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Boys County Finals 2026
MUSA Indoor Arena – Thursday 12th March 2026
The MUSA Indoor Arena was buzzing with excitement today as the nine primary schools who qualified from their groups came together for the Tyrone Cumann na mBunscol Boys Indoor Football Finals. The standard of football was exceptional, but even more impressive was the level of sportsmanship, and respect shown by every single child involved. Each player was a credit to their school, club, and family—true ambassadors for their communities.
With the schools drawn into two groups, one group of four and one group of five, the stage was set for a wonderful day of competition, teamwork, and skill.
Group Stage Drama
Right from the first throw-in it was clear the standard would be extremely high. St Malachy’s P.S. Glencull set the tone early with excellent performances by Niall, Jason, and Tiernan Harte, along with the tireless Daithí Cummins and confident goalkeeping of Eugene McElvogue. Their opening wins showed great teamwork and determination.
Sacred Heart P.S. Rock also impressed, with Jude Kerr firing over some classy scores, Charlie Donaghy pulling off brilliant saves, and Aidan Dynes working tirelessly. Their commitment and composure in tight games earned admiration from all sides.
St John’s P.S. Moy signaled early on that they were one of the teams to watch. Darragh Kelly led with his relentless drive, while twins Alfie and Joey Kelly showed dazzling skill and determination. Daniel Mellon added craft and precision in every game they played.
St Lawrence’s P.S. Fintona battled brilliantly through their fixtures, with some outstanding goalkeeping from Ronan Maguire on show, powerful scoring from Daithí McCann, and superb link play from Jarleth McCarney made them a great team to watch.
St Teresa’s P.S. Loughmacrory, as always, impressed with bravery and determination. Goalkeeper Shea Curren Devlin produced a string of incredible saves. Charlie Duff, Aidan Conway, and Paudi Slane worked tirelessly, constantly pushing their school forward. They were very direct and caused their opposition plenty of problems.
Primate Dixon P.S. Coalisland were a strong unit throughout the day, with Matthew Ward, Darra Coney, and the eye‑catching Killian Hampsey showing skill and determination that lifted their team in every game. They worked well as a unit and improved with each game.
St Colmcille’s P.S. Carrickmore were another team who got better and better as the day went on. Ronan Penrose was in breathtaking form across all games, a real joy to watch and proving almost impossible to mark. Francie McCrory was direct and dangerous, Joe Daly rock solid, Ollie McElroy made two unbelievable saves in the first game and they certainly weren't his last, and forward Leo Marley was a constant attacking threat.
Tummery P.S. Dromore showed incredible heart, drew with Carrickmore in the first round they put up a brilliant fight. Goalkeeper Luke Brogan produced some spectacular saves, Tiernan McQuaid never stopped working, and with Tomas Colton in defence giving everything for his school, it took Carrickmore a while to get on top.
St Patrick’s P.S. Mullinahoe (Ardboe) were full of talent, with Joey McGuigan proving hard to handle, Daniel McDonald excelling in defence and also getting forward to attack. Shea Hughes and Joseph Brown contributed hugely throughout with some very clever play.
The group games were fast, competitive, and full of brilliant scores, brave blocks, and exceptional teamwork—yet they were played in a great spirit. After the dust settled in these frenetic games we had our four worthy semi-finalists.
Semi-Finals
Moy 4‑2 v Loughmacrory 1‑1
This semi-final delivered intensity and excitement. Despite losing their very last group match to The Rock, Moy bounced back in style with Darragh Kelly, the Kelly twins, Daniel Mellon, and their outfield‑moving goalkeeper making huge contributions. Loughmacrory, led by the heroics of Shea Curren Devlin and the relentless efforts of Duff, Conway and Slane, pushed hard but Moy’s power and pace proved decisive. Like their girls the day before they had made it through to the final.
Carrickmore 2‑1 v Glencull 2‑0
A superb, tight contest. Carrickmore—driven on by Penrose, Daly, and more heroics from Ollie McElroy—started very strongly. It looked as they were going to pull away from the Errigal boys but Glencull finished impressively with some brilliant work from the Harte boys and Daithí Cummins they got on the score board with two quick goals putting pressure on the Carrickmore boys. With McElvogue making a late save the game went down to the wire but Carrickmore held on for the narrowest of victories to go through to the final.
The Final – A Classic
Moy 4‑3 v Carrickmore 3‑1
The final brought together two of the strongest teams on show through out the day, and it certainly lived up to all expectations.
Carrickmore began brilliantly, with Penrose once again looking very sharp. Joe Daly and Leo Marley asking serious questions of the Moy defence. In the opening skirmishes the Moy only managed one quick break and this was dealt well by goalkeeper Ollie McElroy produced two astonishing saves in succession. But Moy showed huge character, and fought their way back into the game. With goalkeeper McQuaide now playing outfield the rhythm of the game changed —his powerful running and good decision‑making made a huge impact. With Darragh Kelly and Daniel Mellon finishing strongly the Moy were ruthless finished well to claim a memorable victory.
Carrickmore were incredibly unlucky to find themselves behind after playing so well but as always they were very gracious in defeat, showing the true spirit of Cumann na mBunscol.
Throughout the day, every school displayed exemplary behaviour. They were once again outstanding ambassadors for their schools, clubs, and families. Their manners, respect for referees, and each another were praised by all in attendance.
