Boys’ Tyrone CnMB Indoor Qualifier
Glencull Power to Victory in Boys’ Tyrone CnMB Indoor Qualifier
Loughview, Dungannon — St Malachy’s Glencull produced a dominant display to win the Boys’ Tyrone CnMB Indoor Gaelic Football Qualifier today, topping a competitive field of six schools in a fast‑paced and highly entertaining tournament.
The competition featured:
St Malachy’s Glencull, St Mary’s Ballygawley, St Patrick’s Aughadarragh, St Macartan’s Clogher, St Brigid’s Altamuskin, and St Mary’s Fivemiletown.
With five league rounds of five‑minute matches and no half‑time breaks, teams were pushed to play at speed, showcasing skill, movement, and quick decision‑making throughout the morning.
League Round‑Up
Glencull set the standard early, opening with a tight 3–2 win over Clogher before settling into a ruthless rhythm that saw them finish the league undefeated. Ballygawley were close behind, their sharp attacking play securing four strong wins to claim the second final spot.
The remaining four schools contributed significantly to a competitive and entertaining league campaign:
Clogher were involved in several of the morning’s most exciting matches. They pushed Glencull all the way in a 3–2 thriller in the opening round and showed strong attacking intent throughout the competition. Their best moment came in Round 5 with a deserved 3–1 win over Aughadarragh, demonstrating their ability to move the ball quickly and finish with precision. Despite some narrow defeats, Clogher’s resilience and work rate stood out.
Altamuskin delivered a determined display across all five rounds, highlighted by an impressive 2–1 victory over Aughadarragh in Round 3. They defended bravely against several of the tournament’s stronger sides and consistently pressed high, making life difficult for their opponents. Although results didn’t always go their way, their ability to stay competitive in tight games earned them respect from all involved.
Fivemiletown showed moments of real promise and creativity across the tournament. Their best performance came in Round 3, where they claimed a confident 5–1 win over Clogher, playing with fluency and accuracy in front of goal. They also forced Glencull to work hard in their Round 4 meeting. Though they couldn’t string together enough wins to challenge for a final spot, their attacking play was among the most entertaining of the day.
Aughadarragh had flashes of strong form, particularly early on with a well-earned 0–0 draw against Fivemiletown. Their closest match came in Round 4, where they narrowly lost 2–1 to Ballygawley after a spirited and physical display. They battled gamely in every fixture and were unlucky not to secure more from their performances, often finding themselves just edged out in key moments.
Final: Glencull Too Strong in Decider
The final brought the two best teams of the day head‑to‑head once more. Despite a spirited effort from Ballygawley, Glencull maintained the precision and intensity that had defined their entire campaign.
A clinical performance saw Glencull run out 4–0 winners, sealing the title in emphatic fashion and confirming their place at the County Finals Day in MUSA, Cookstown on Wednesday 11th March.
A High‑Quality Competition
The tournament once again highlighted the depth of skill in Tyrone primary schools, with every team contributing to a morning of competitive and entertaining football. Organisers praised the commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship shown by all players across the five rounds.
We would like to thank referee Marty Coyle for his excellent officiating, ensuring the games were played fairly and in great spirit throughout. We also extend our appreciation to Dungannon United Youth for the use of their excellent facilities, which helped make the event a great success.
