Boys Indoor Heat - MUSA Cookstown 🏆
Boys’ Indoor Competition
Our Boys’ Indoor Heat took place in MUSA Cookstown on Thursday 18th February, and once again it proved to be one of the most competitive and enjoyable events on the school sporting calendar. This group has always showcased a very high standard of football, and this year was no exception — the skill, teamwork, and determination on display from every school involved made it a fantastic day from start to finish.
The schools involved were:
- St Peter's P.S. Moortown
- St Mary's P.S. Pomeroy
- St Patrick's P.S. Donaghmore
- St Joseph's P.S. Galbally
- St Patrick's P.S. Mullinahoe
- Holy Trinity P.S. Cookstown
- St Mary's PS, Dunamore
Group Stages
The competition was divided into two strong sections, and from the very first whistle it was clear that all teams had arrived ready to give their all. The group stages produced:
- tightly contested matches
- impressive passages of play
- committed defending
- moments of real individual and team brilliance
Every school contributed hugely to the excitement and quality of the day. Each side showed great preparation, focus, and sportsmanship, creating an atmosphere that reflected the very best of school sport.
Donaghmore and Ardboe both put in excellent performances throughout their groups. Their consistency and strong teamwork saw them finish the group stages unbeaten, a superb achievement that earned each of them a direct place in the semi‑finals.
Semi‑Finals
The semi‑final stage produced two fantastic games.
Ardboe faced a talented Donaghmore team in what proved to be a high‑quality match. Ardboe showed determination, composure, and a tremendous work rate to secure their place in the final. Donaghmore, for their part, demonstrated excellent football and great spirit throughout the day, and were a credit to their school.
In the second semi‑final, Galbally overcame the strong challenge of Holy Trinity Primary School, who played with great grit and enthusiasm. Galbally’s teamwork and organisation helped them progress, while Holy Trinity deserve huge praise for their commitment and the quality of their performances earlier in the competition.
The Final
The final brought a dramatic rematch between Ardboe and Galbally — and it more than lived up to expectations. Both sides gave absolutely everything, producing a fast, thrilling contest full of high‑quality play.
At one stage it looked as though Ardboe might fall short, but in true Ardboe fashion, the boys dug deep, regrouped, and showed outstanding resilience. With determination and teamwork, they edged ahead and held on, securing victory by the slimmest of margins.
The final whistle sparked fantastic celebrations among the St Patrick’s, Ardboe players and supporters. Their triumph was fully deserved, reflecting their teamwork, character, and positive attitude throughout the entire day.
Galbally also deserve enormous credit — they battled for every ball, showed excellent footballing ability, and demonstrated the kind of spirit that guarantees they will return even stronger.
