ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL BOYS INDOOR GAA

7th Feb 2024

St Ronan’s Recarson Rule The Roost

Another Heat of the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Gaelic Football 5 a-side (Boys) was held in the Station Centre, Omagh Tues 6th Feb.  St Patricks NTS, St Scire's Trillick, St Ronan's Recarson, St Lawrences Fintona & St Michael's Dunamanagh were the participants.

Matches lasted 5 mins and an exciting feature of the ‘indoor game’ is that the ball is always in play. All out attack was the order of the day with 40 goals scored in 11 matches, however that total would have been much higher if it was not for the outstanding performances of virtually all the goalkeepers present.

St Scire’s Trillick & St Lawrence’s Fintona got the action underway with the Fintona boys showing they meant business with a 4:0 victory. Sean Haughey & Oisin McCarroll were outstanding. This was followed up with St Ronan’s, Recarson proving to be too strong for very young Patrick’s Newtownstewart team, winning 3:0

St Lawrences Fintona, then suffered a shock defeat to very skilful St Michael's Dunamanagh as the north Tyrone men edged a 5 goal thriller.

St Scire’s Trillick but on stunning display as they Blitzed St Patricks NTS with 4 goals inside 1 min, which under the rules of the competition resulted in the match being terminated. St Michael’s Dunamanagh then suffered a 4:0 defeat to a very impressive St Ronan’s Recarson team who displayed great teamwork. St Lawrence’s returned to winning ways with a 4:0 win over a determined St Patrick’s team. St Scire’s inspired by Sean Farry & Conor Kelly did well to soak up a lot of pressure from St Michael’s Dunamanagh and struck for 2 goals on the break to win.

This match was followed by the best match of the day in which St Lawrence’s Fintona & St Ronan’s Recarson after a ‘titanic’ battle which swung both ways settled for a 3:3 draw. St Michael’s Dunamanagh, inspired by Cain Dooher, Rory Doherty & Cathal McGonigle then secured their second win of the day over a gallant S Patrick’s NTS, who had excellent performances from Dara Devenney in goals & Jude McSorley in midfield.

Prior to the final game in the league section between St Scire’s Trillick & St Ronan’s Recarson various permutations meant 3 teams could still qualify for the final. St Ronan’s showed greater threat in front of goals and as a result won 3:1, thus qualifying for the final with St Lawrence’s Fintona.

The final itself reflected what had happened in many of the previous games, as St Ronan’s took firm control of the game and ran out convincing winners 4:0 with the game being terminated. This would be a rare occurrence in a heat final but was an indication of the quality this St Ronan’s team possess. Undoubtably the best team won this heat and we wish them well in the next stage of the competition.

Thanks to Fabian McGlone who was a very impartial referee for all games, however I’m sure that he would agree that his day was made easy due the fact that not a single player or teacher as much as contested a decision throughout the day.  Well done to all players especially the victorious St Ronan’s Recarson squad: Ronan Kearney, Alfie Irvine, Daithi Kelly, Cathal Devlin, Shanog McKenna, Frank McFadden, Patrick Monaghan & James O’Kane. Comhghairdeas
