Boys' Indoor Football, Omagh: Heat 7

ALLIANZ CUMANN Na mBUNSCOL

BOYS’ INDOOR FOOTBALL HEAT 7: Omagh

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol held its seventh heat of the annual 5-a-side Boys’ Indoor Gaelic Football for primary schools today in Omagh’s superb Station Centre. Nine local schools entered teams for this hugely entertaining qualifying heat.

Section ‘A’ contained 5 very skilful teams. Despite trying their hearts out, the schools from Gaelscoil na gCrann; Christ The King P.S. Strathroy and the Clan na nGael schools didn’t quite make the semi-finals. Nevertheless, they can be very proud of their tremendous efforts. That left 2 schools making it through to the semi-finals: our 2018 Co. Champions St. Scire’s P.S. Trillick (Section winners with a 100% record), and St. Ronan’s P.S. Recarson (Runners-Up).

Section ‘B’ was equally as competitive. Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh, Stráth Bán, and St. Patrick’s P.S. Eskra gave it everything in attempting to qualify but fell just short of their target. Just like their counterparts in the other group they are entitled to feel a sense of pride for their endeavours. This left us with St. Lawrence’s P.S. Fintona (Section winners) and Our Lady of Lourdes P.S. Greencastle (Runners-Up) through to the heat semi’s.

The 2 section winners prevailed in the semi-finals – albeit, Recarson running Fintona very close in a 2-1 classic. Meanwhile, Trillick registered a 5-2 triumph over Greencastle. Joint 3rd in such a competitive heat is a brilliant outcome for St. Ronan’s and Our Lady of Lourdes P.S. Well done!

For the heat final Master King’s St. Scire’s P.S. Trillick and St. Lawrence’s P.S. Fintona put on an exhibition. Both teams were in top form and served-up a superb final. At full-time it was a 1-1 draw. By the end of extra-time the teams were still locked at 2-2. A ‘Golden Goal’ was going to decide the heat winners. The question being: which of the teams would get it? As it transpired, a new name will appear on the Co. trophy this year as the holders St. Scire’s fell by that all-important goal. They certainly didn’t relinquish their crown lightly and they were great ambassadors for Tyrone as title holders. Meanwhile, a well-earned Tyrone Indoor Football County Final spot awaits Master McMullan’s Fintona lads on Tuesday 12 March in Cookstown’s MUSA Indoor Arena.

We wish them well. Ádh mór oraibh.

Thanks to our referee Sean McCartan and to the helpful staff of Omagh Station Centre. Patrick McGivern (Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain) ensured the smooth running of the day’s games.

Well done, everyone! Go raibh maith agaibh.
