Boys’ Indoor Football: Heat 8

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain held the penultimate heat of its annual 5-a-side Boys’ Indoor Gaelic Football for primary schools in Cookstown’s splendid Leisure Centre. This Heat saw 6 local schools compete in 2 sections of matches (‘A’ and ‘B’).

Section ‘A’ contained Sacred Heart P.S. Rock; St. Joseph’s P.S. Killeenan and St. Mary’s P.S. Stewartstown. As things transpired, Stewartstown won both of their games to top the section with Rock pipping a talented Killeenan team to the other semi-final place as section Runners-Up.

Section ‘B’ comprised schools from Gaelscoil Eoghain, Chorra Críche; Laghey P.S. and St. Mary’s P.S. Lisbuoy, Carland. In another tight group, the Carland lads won both of their matches to top the section with Laghey securing the remaining semi-final berth by seeing-off a gallant Gaelscoil side.

The first semi-final pitched Stewartstown against Laghey with the St. Mary’s boys prevailing against their brave opponents. The second semi-final saw the section ‘B’ winners, Carland, lose out to a spirited Rock team who had finished as section ‘A’ runners-up. Therefore, it was Master Reilly’s unbeaten Stewartstown side against Master McGinn’s unbeaten Rock team. This was a repeat of last year’s final. Something had to give…

As things panned out, it was the Rock lads who came flying out of the blocks and they didn’t relent as they secured victory. A word for the impressive runners-up, Stewartstown. They gave it everything, but it just didn’t prove to be their day after having a brilliant tournament.

Therefore, it is the boys from Sacred Heart P.S. Rock who achieve a well-earned Tyrone Indoor Football County Final spot on Tuesday 10 March in Cookstown’s MUSA Indoor Arena. We wish them well. Ádh mór oraibh.

A huge word of thanks goes to our referee Marty Devlin for his excellent officiating. Cookstown Leisure Centre staff are also thanked. Patrick McGivern (Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain) ensured the smooth running of the day’s games. Terrific football was had by all. Go raibh maith agaibh!
