Allianz Tyrone CnmB Hurling County Final.

29th May 2022

Well done to all our schools who took part in our Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain Hurling Finals Day 2022. This year we had Holy Family PS Omagh, St. Lawrence’s PS Fintona, Holy Trinity PS Cookstown, St. Ronan's PS Recarson, Gaelscoil Aodha Rua Dungannon and our hosts St Colmcille’s PS Carrickmore who all battled it out for the honours.

The Shield Competition was a very tight and competitive section with some brilliant games before the St Colmcille’s second team came through to win the final after wins against an excellent St. Lawrence’s PS Fintona and a competitive Holy Trinity PS Cookstown team. All the schools deserve great credit for the standard of hurling they produced. Hopefully we can add a few new schools next year into this competition. Despite being beaten Lorcan Gallen from St Lawerences was rewarded for his individual performances by being nominated player of the tournament in the Shield Competition.

In the Cup Competition after the draw was made St Colmcille’s played St. Ronan's PS Recarson in the first semi final. Holy Family PS Omagh played Gaelscoil Aodha Rua Dungannon in the second semi final.

The Roan lads fought heroically in their semi final but succumbed to a very powerful St Colmcille’s team who booked their place in the final first. Whilst the Carmen boys watched on Holy Family secured their place in the final with a victory over the Dungannon boys in a superb game that ebbed and flowed. It took few moments of individual skill from the Omagh boys to see off a very talented opposition.

As we were expecting both teams served up an absolute classic County Final. It was an epic match, brimming with top-rate hurling and there was very little between two well coached teams but in the end the Carrickmore men emerged victorious to add another county title to their list of victories. Holy Family didn’t go home empty handed though as James McGarvey was selected as player of the tournament in the cup competition.

A special word of thanks goes to all the accompanying teachers and team mentors. Special appreciation also goes to Mr Emmet O’ Neill for all his ongoing hard work and effort in organising and promoting the day. Also we need to mention the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain officials, and Tyrone County board coaches for helping to coordinate the day.

A truly memorable day for all involved. Maith sibh go léir!
