Allianz Tyrone Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling Finals 2024

20th Mar 2024

The Station Centre in Omagh was the venue for today's Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling Finals. Roan St. Patrick’s Eglish, St John’s Moy, St. Mary’s Killyclogher, Blessed Patrick O’Loughran Castlecaufield,      St. Patrick’s Donaghmore and holders, St Colmcille's Carrickmore, had all previously qualified for what was to be a memorable day for all in attendance.

After a series of round-robin matches, in which all boys played fantastically, showing great skill and determination throughout, the semi-finals were decided. The Killyclogher and Donaghmore boys narrowly missed-out on a semi-final place, but they certainly did their schools and communities proud with their performance.

Holders Carrickmore, who finished top, faced off against Castlecaufield in the first semi-final. This was an exciting game, with the Carrickmore boys doing enough to make it through to the final.

The second semi-final was another tight affair between Roan and Moy, but the Roan lads were able to get the vital score to see them through to the decider.

The final can only be described as a classic. Carrickmore attacked relentlessly but the Roan defence held tight. Roan attacked on the break and looked very dangerous. The determination of both teams was very evident as no team could break the deadlock. After three minutes Roan scored the first goal of the encounter. This seemed to ignite the Carrickmore lads who finished the game strongly with a scoreline of five goals to one.

St Colmcille's Carrickmore boys will now go forward to represent the county on March 21st at the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Ulster Finals in Magherafelt.

A big thank you to Tyrone Hurling Development Officer, Damhlaic Rushe, Colm Dillion, and Ryan Devlin, Tyrone u20 Hurling Captain, for officiating today and to all the adults who helped organise the heats and finals and to everyone who helped to transport pupils to the venues.
