1 Wall Handball Doubles 2018

11th May 2018

ALLIANZ Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain

1-Wall Handball Tyrone Blitzes

As was the case in previous years,  St. Joseph's College, Coalisland and St. Ciaran's College, Ballygawley, kindly acted as wonderful host venues for our Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain 1-Wall Handball blitzes 2018.

Four primary schools competed on Day 1 in St. Joseph's College, Coalisland: Kingsisland, Edendork, Primate Dixon and debutants Roan P.S. It proved to be a great day for Roan P.S. as they won Gold in the Boys' Doubles competition and silver in the Girls’ competition. Edendork P.S. also had a super day as they emerged victorious in the Girls' Final and they secured runner-up medals in the Boys’ Final. Primate Dixon and Kingsisland both displayed terrific skill. Maith sibh go léir!

In the Blitz at St. Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley, four schools entered: Glencull, Greencastle, Beragh and Pomeroy. The Girls' Doubles Blitz was won by a formidable St. Mary’s P.S. Pomeroy with a gallant Our Lady of Lourdes P.S. Greencastle claiming silver medals. The Boys' Doubles title was won by a terrific St. Oliver Plunkett P.S. Beragh with the Runners-Up spot being secured by Pomeroy. All four schools performed brilliantly.

The events have seen terrific participation and skill from the primary schools involved. This excellent Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 1- Wall Handball Schools initiative at primary school level continues to gather pace with many more schools now participating in Handball games throughout our Tyrone primary schools.

Many thanks to the host schools with Mr. Richard Thornton in St. Joseph's College, Coalisland and Mrs. Maria Curran in St. Ciaran's College. We also thank the Year 11 & 13 students from both schools who expertly refereed the games. We acknowledge the assistance from Darragh and Ryan Daly, for their invaluable work in promoting Handball in our schools. Mickey Quinn (CnmB) coordinated all the games in Ballygawley.

Finally, well done to our pupils and teachers for their continued support of our national games. Comhghairdeas libh!
