GIRLS INDOOR GAELIC

Heat 8 of the Indoor Gaelic Football 5 a-side (Girls) was held in the Station Centre, Omagh Mon 27th Feb. Section 1: St Patricks NTS, Gaelscoil na gCrann, St Scire's Trillick & St Ronan's Recarson. Section2: Our Lady of Lourdes Greencastle, Omagh Integrated, St Lawrences Fintona & St Michael's Dunamanagh.

When the action got underway St Ronan’s Recarson showed their intent with a convincing win over St Patricks NTS. This was followed up with a St. Scire’s Trillick win over Gaelscoil na gCrann.

St Lawrences Fintona, set the pace in Section 2 with an impressive victory over Omagh Integrated
P.S. Our Lady of Lourdes Greencastle shared the points with St Michael's Dunamanagh in a very keenly contested game between two very evenly matched teams. More about that later!

Round 2:  St Scire’s Trillick proved too strong for St Patrick’s NTS., and St Ronan’s Recarson, just edged out v Gaelscoil na gCrann  2 goals to 1.  St Michael's Dunamanagh led by Mia Dooher & Caitimae O’Neill found their scoring boots v Omagh Integrated P.S., but the real talking point was the string of heroic saves by Emilia Lowry & the strong resistance put up by Holly Bradley for Omagh Integrated . This was followed by an incredible 5-5 draw between St Lawrences Fintona and Our Lady of Lourdes Greencastle. Anna Colton & Maddie Quinn led the Fintona girls whereas Mya Molloy & Emma Conway excelled for Greencastle.

Round 3: Gaelscoil na gCrann inspired by Zoe Ní Mhuiris & Róisín Ni Threasaigh had a scoreless draw v St Patrick’s NTS who had impressive players in Leah Connolly & Meghan Patton. St Scire’s Maya Rose hit an impressive hat-trick and was well supported by Niamh McNulty in Trillick’s  4-0 win over St Ronan’s Recarson, who had solid performances from Caitlin Doherty & Aoife McCrory.

Omagh Integrated P.S. who improved with every match just lost 1-0  to Our Lady of Lourdes Greencastle who had hit 5 in their previous game. The sections were completed when St Lawrences Fintona and St Michael’s Dunamanagh played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. The implications of this were that both teams & St Lawrences were all tied at the top of the section. A draw followed with St Lawrence’s being awarded runners up spot & the other two teams were set to meet in a play-off having previously drawn 0-0. After a 5 min game the teams were tied 2 each, so a further period of 5 mins was required. With fingernails being eaten, the lead changed hands with teams again being level 2-2 with time almost up. Our Lady of Lourdes eventually struck the winner between two well-matched teams.

The first semi-final saw an undefeated St Scire’s Trillick take on St Lawrences. Both teams fought tooth & nail with Fintona leading 3-2 with 5 seconds remaining, then Magic Maya Rose hit an equaliser. Extra time was required but St Scire’s secured the ticket to the final.

The second semi-final saw St Ronan’s Recarson v Our Lady of Lourdes. Greencastle made light of their previous playoff exertions to win 4-0.

Therefore, Our Lady of Lourdes faced St Scire’s in the Final. It was the Trillick girls who eventually got a grip of the contest to win 4-2. We wish them well in the next stage of the competition.

Thanks to Fabian McGlone who was a very impartial referee for all games.  Well done to all players especially the victorious St Scire’s squad: Katie McGurren, Orlagh Corry, Lucy Brennan, Niamh McNulty, Maya Rose, Blanaid McCann, Ella McElholm & Keira Doyle.
